For those of you that don’t know this, Gianni turned into a pacifier baby a few days before his 1st birthday. He had an ear infection and to help ease any discomfort he may have been in, I gave him his pacifier. Well, this soon became an obsession. An obsession that we only caved into at nap/bedtime and if he was sick.
He started school in April and at that time, was not receiving his pacifier at naptime. Big boys don’t take paci’s to school! That was one sleeping time down, one to go. So here we are - on the verge of his 2nd birthday. He seems to really, really love his pacifier these days which makes this even more difficult. He even so cutely says ‘Paci? Paci?’ This is where I draw the line. If you’re old enough to ask for it, in my opinion you don’t need it.
About 2 weeks ago, we noticed his one and only pacifier had a small tear in it. Perfect! It’s broken and won’t work. He continued to bite/chew on it which only made the tear worse. We kept telling him this would be his last pacifier, but he just laughed and chewed on it. That’s when it happened.
On Sunday morning, Gianni ripped the pacifier in half, completely ‘breaking’ it. We looked at him and said “That was your last one. Now put it in the garbage”. He so cutely said “Last? Garga?” (that means garbage in Gianni talk) and he threw it away.
That day, I think Luke had the harder time. I had to make him understand that this was a GREAT thing and the fact that Gianni threw it away was even better. So the past few nights, it takes a little longer for Gianni to fall asleep but he is perfectly fine without it. Thank god our big boy ditched the ‘paci’ before his 2nd birthday! Let’s hope there is hope for his front teeth :-)
